Guest speaker Series
When I joined the Lincoln University faculty in the fall 2012 semester, I looked for ways I could contribute to the political science program and help enrich the students' academic experience. One key area I where I knew I could immediately make an impact was through exposing undergraduates to academic research. In addition to integrating research into my courses and inviting students to collaborate with me on my own research, I launched a guest lecture series and began inviting emerging and established scholars to visit the LU campus and share their expertise on a topic they are passionate about. By the end of the 2014-2015 academic year, the series will have hosted a dozen scholars who have spoken on topic including: climate change policy in developed nations, causes and consequences of the Great Migration out of the American South, healthcare policy in the US, political sex scandals, territorial disputes in East Asia, and the relative military aggression of female heads of state.
At Missouri Southern State University, I have arranged for guest speakers from the Missouri Attorney General's office, Legal Aid of Western Missouri, the Lafayette House, Missouri Public Defender's office, the Joplin City Manager and several city department heads, Jasper County Prosecutor, Jasper County Commissioners, and several state and local legislators. Bringing people to campus to speak about their careers in law, politics, and public service helps students better understand course material and provides an opportunity for professional development and networking.

Faculty Advisor: Pre-Law Scholars (2014-2015)
In December 2014, a group of students began organizing a pre-law organization. The students filed the paperwork to become an official student organization in January 2015 and host a variety of events, including tours of the Missouri State Supreme Court, LSAT preparation sessions, and visits with local community mentors.
In 2021, I was appointed the Pre-Law Advisor at Missouri Southern and launched the Pre-Law Pride, a group for students interested in legal careers. The PLP has a Blackboard organization page that houses information about upcoming law school recruiting events, advice on preparing law school applications, information on selecting courses and programs of study that will prepare students for law school, and more. Students can quickly sign up for the PLP using a QR code.
